Italians strike against government's austerity plan

Millions of Italians have taken part in a day-long strike against the government's latest austerity measures.

Thousands of passengers have been stranded as flights have been cancelled, trains and buses were stationary, and government offices shut across Italy during the 8-hour long strike.

The protest was called by trade unions who oppose the government's 45bn-euro (£40bn) austerity package.
