Several dead after floods hit Tuscany and Liguria

Authorities believe nine people have been killed in serious flooding in central and northern Italy. Flash floods and mudslides were caused after around 20 inches (50cm) of rain fell in 24 hours.

The floods left roads underwater and caused widespread disruption to phone and power supplies. Local authorities warned the public not to go out and the army has been put on standby.

Peter Biles reports.
