Row breaks out over name of sausage

A row has broken out between Austria and Slovenia over the name of a sausage.

Slovenia wants the Kranjska or Krainer sausage to join the ranks of Parmesan cheese, Champagne and Cornish pasties, by being granted EU protected geographical status.

But Austria, where a cheese-filled variation of the sausage, the Kasekrainer is a traditional favourite, strongly objects.

It says that the loss of the Kasekrainer name would be an economic blow to sausage producers and to Austria's cultural heritage.
