Greek government coalition 'impossible'

The leader of a Greek centre-right party has said he cannot form a coalition government, just hours after he was given the mandate to do so by the president.

Antonis Samaras, whose New Democracy party is now the biggest in Greece - having gained just 19% of the vote - said a coalition was "impossible".

The Greek result, which saw support crumble for the mainstream conservative and socialist parties who supported the European bailout, has caused concern in the EU.
