Kosovo's fight for Olympic recognition

Athletes from Kosovo are asking the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to recognise their country and allow them to represent it.

Kosovo is not recognised as a sovereign state by the IOC, and it has yet to join the United Nations.

The dispute has led many athletes to emigrate in order to take part in international competitions.
