Thousands protest against Spanish cuts

Thousands of people in Spain have lined the streets in Madrid to support coal miners, who have been marching for three weeks from the northern mining areas, for a mass protest about the austerity cuts.

The Spanish government is putting VAT up by 3% to 21% and there will be further cuts to public spending to follow.

The miners fear cutting subsidies will cost them their jobs.

Tom Burridge reports from Madrid.
