Unease in Italy as PM Mario Monti 'eyes exit'
Italy's PM Mario Monti has played down speculation of an imminent resignation, saying he is focused on "completing his mandate" before 2013 elections.
On Saturday night Mario Monti announced that he would stand down as soon as parliament has approved next year's budget.
But Italy's main stock index fell 2.2% on Monday amid reports he was to quit and that former premier Silvio Berlusconi was to run for office again.
