Silvio Berlusconi convicted over wiretap recordings

Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has been sentenced to jail for helping publish transcripts of secretly recorded conversations.

Mr Berlusconi is likely to appeal and will remain free in the meantime.

Berlusconi - who recently finished third in the Italian general election - argues the case against him is politically motivated.
