Could Germany 'put the brakes' on autobahn speeds?

The opposition centre-left Social Democratic Party have hit a bump in their campaign trail after its national chairman, Sigmar Gabriel, called for a national speed limit on autobahns or motorways.

As the country heads towards an election in September, the suggestion of a national speed limit has not gone down well in a region where the car industry is so strong.
