Countdown to German election

Chancellor Angela Merkel's campaign has warned that the result of Germany's upcoming parliamentary election will be closer than predicted, four days before voters head to the ballot box.

Mrs Merkel is still favourite to win but the gap has narrowed, according to opinion polls.
