'Bishops responsible' for abuse reporting

The Vatican is being confronted publicly for the first time over the sexual abuse of children by clergy, at a UN hearing in Geneva.

It marks the first time the Vatican has had to defend its record in a public forum.

Victims of abuse who have travelled to Geneva have described the hearings as momentous.

Dr Austen Ivereigh, a Catholic commentator and founder of Catholic Voices, told the BBC's George Alagiah that the Vatican cannot be held responsible for what it cannot control.
