The controversial decision by Crimean leaders to split from Ukraine to join Russia could have a major impact on the economy of the peninsula.

The region receives significant financial support from Ukraine and will now need to look to Moscow for funding.

Crimea is also highly dependant on Ukraine for energy and water.
