Turkey mining disaster: Country must unite, says president

Turkey "must unite" following a mine disaster that claimed at least 282 lives, the country's president has said.

Abdullah Gül was speaking after meeting injured miners in hospital and touring the scene of the explosion in Soma.

There have been protests around the country following claims from union leaders that privatisation of the mining sector had made working conditions more dangerous.
