Rise in illegal migration into European Union

There has been a significant rise in illegal migration into the European Union this year.

New figures from the EU border agency, seen by the BBC, show 42,000 migrants entered illegally in the first four months of this year.

It comes amid a political backlash against immigration which saw anti-establishment parties prosper in last week's European Parliament elections.

And the prediction is that the numbers will rise further during the summer months.

The BBC's World Affairs Correspondent Paul Adams has this exclusive report.
