Soyuz heads to ISS with female cosmonaut on board

A Russian Soyuz spacecraft has taken off from Kazakhstan carrying the first Russian woman to fly in space for 17 years.

Cosmonauts Elena Serova and Alexander Samokutyaev and Nasa astronaut Barry Wilmore are on their way to the International space station for a six month stint.

The last female astronaut on the ISS was American Karen Nyberg who was in orbit for six months in 2013.
