Pro-Russian separatists win vote in eastern Ukraine
A pro-Russian separatist has won a leadership vote in eastern Ukraine, in an election which has been widely condemned.
Alexander Zakharchenko won the vote by some distance, according to the central electoral commission, to lead the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.
The European Union and Ukrainian president have both criticised the elections as illegal, Russia has said it will respect the will of the people.
