Auschwitz anniversary: Death on the doorstep

During the war Oswiecim was under Nazi occupation, camp life seeped onto the streets of the town as prisoners were forced into public works.

With the SS controlling every aspect of local life, townspeople lived in fear.

But many - like Janina Paszek and her family - did all they could in secret to help the prisoners.

She was only 14 when the camp opened, but she schemed to get food to the prisoners wherever she could.

She told her story to the BBC's Stephanie Hegarty.
