John Kerry calls for UN action on human rights abuses in Ukraine

US Secretary of State John Kerry has called on the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva to examine rights violations in Crimea and eastern Ukraine.

Mr Kerry has been meeting his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, who spoke of tangible progress in implementing the truce aimed at ending fighting in the country.

However speaking to the council, Mr Kerry said ''men, women and children are being killed'' by pro-Russia rebels.
