MH17 crash site fragment 'from missile warhead'

On 17 July 2014 flight MH17 was downed over eastern Ukraine with the wreckage and remains of 298 passengers falling in a warzone.

The victims came from several countries, but 196 were from the Netherlands.

When Dutch reporter Jeroen Akkermans first visited the scene of the disaster, the wreckage and human remains were largely untouched.

On his third visit, in November last year, evidence still lay uncollected.

Akkermans decided to pick up around 20 small pieces which he sent for scientific analysis.

One was a rusty fragment which experts from UK defence analyst IHS Jane's linked to a warhead of the type used by a Russian Buk missile launcher.

The fragment has been handed to the Dutch authorities.
