Challenges in Europe: Against austerity in Ireland

Ireland has been seen as the poster child of austerity in Europe. Salaries were cut and taxes raised to fund the bank bailout.

There were no riots on the streets like in Greece but people were spurred into action when the government announced that people would have to pay for water.

In a series looking at the challenges facing Europe, the BBC meets a teacher turned political activist.

Filming and editing: Helene Daouphars. Producer: Aine Gallagher.
