EU leaders pledge Med migrants cash

European Union leaders have agreed to triple the funding for their search and rescue operation for migrants who cross the Mediterranean from north Africa.

They also offered helicopters, ships and manpower, and agreed to launch operations to capture and destroy smuggler vessels before they could be used.

At a news conference in Brussels, the president of the European Council, Donald Tusk, outlined the measures agreed by EU leaders.
