Of the more than 127,000 refugees and migrants who have entered Europe from North Africa and the Middle East by sea so far in 2015, 62,000 have ended up in Italy and more than 63,000 are in Greece.

The UN estimates wars and conflict across the globe forced 19.5 million people to flee their homes in 2014, and in 2015 that figure is expected to be higher.

During Prime Minister's Questions, Prime Minister David Cameron focused on the smugglers who are exploiting vulnerable people.
