Catalans prepare for Barcelona rally for independence

Nearly half a million Catalans have registered to take part in a street rally in Barcelona on Friday in what is expected to be a massive show of support for independence from Spain.

A separatist coalition of left and right-wing parties is leading the polls in Catalonia's regional elections later this month.

The "Together For Yes" campaign says if it wins a majority in the regional assembly it will start the process of setting up an independent Catalan state. Madrid has promised to block any move to break away three months before Spain itself holds a general election. Tom Burridge reports from Barcelona.
