Catalans stage huge pro-independence rally

A huge rally has taken place in the Spanish region of Catalonia with hundreds of thousands of pro-independence campaigners lining the streets.

The Together for Yes campaign, a separatist coalition of parties, is leading the polls ahead of Catalonia's regional elections this month, and has promised to push through plans for an independent Catalan state if it wins a majority.

The Spanish government has promised to block any move to break away.
