Paris attacks: President Obama says 'US stands with France'

US President Barack Obama has condemned a series of attacks in Paris which have left dozens of people dead.

Scores of people have been killed in multiple shootings in the French capital, Paris, in explosions near the Stade de France, and at the Bataclan arts centre, where a number of people were held hostage by gunmen.

Mr Obama described the attacks as "an outrageous attempt to terrorise innocent civilians" and said the US was "standing ready to provide whatever assistance the government and the people of France need to respond."
