Paris shootings and explosions: Hollande calls attacks 'a barbaric act'

French President Francois Hollande has promised a "merciless" fight against terrorists after scores of people were killed in a series of attacks in Paris.

At least 80 people are reported to have died at the Bataclan concert hall in central Paris, where gunmen took many people hostage.

Others died in a reported suicide blast near the Stade de France and gun attacks on city centre restaurants.

Speaking outside the Bataclan hall, Mr Hollande described the attacks as "an abomination and a barbaric act".
