Turkey coup attempt: This is worse than a terrorist attack, says ex-PM

Former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has hit out at international criticism of Turkey for its actions following the failed coup attempt.

He told the BBC that Turkey would defend itself, "regardless of what our European or French friends say".

He said that, as prime minister, he had taken to the streets of Paris to support France after it was hit by terrorism last year, and he now expected the same support from France and other European countries.

The former prime minister described the events of Friday night as "even worse than a terrorist attack".
