Wildfires sweep through dry Portugal forests

Hundreds of people have been forced to leave their homes as dozens of wildfires rage across the Portuguese mainland and on the island of Madeira, say officials.

A man died of cardiac arrest as the flames advanced on the flats in which he lived in Valongo, outside Porto in northern Portugal, said media reports.

The fires follow weeks of dry weather, but have also been blamed on bad forest management.
