French rapper Mokobe sees hope for banlieue kids
Like many French rappers Mokobe was born and bred in one of the immigrant suburbs that ring French cities.
Over a 20-year career, he has filled venues across France and West Africa but has retained a special connection with the "banlieues".
His fond memories of growing up with 14 other children of Senegalese-Mauritanian parents in Vitry-sur-Seine, near Paris, belie the image of France's housing estates as dismal ghettoes.
