EU-Turkey row boosting far-right says Selin Sayek Boke

A senior figure in Turkey's main opposition party says that the ongoing diplomatic row between the EU and Turkey has "contributed to the very far-right, extreme political movements abroad".

Selin Sayek Boke, who is a deputy leader in the Republican People’s Party, told BBC Hardtalk that the row has created "sentiments of otherisation" and that Turkish expats' lives will "be more difficult now".

The Turkish government has been enraged by Germany, the Netherlands and other nations' decisions to block its officials from holding political rallies in those countries.

It wants to win the votes of large Turkish populations living in Europe ahead of a key referendum that would expand President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's executive powers.

The EU has criticised the referendum, saying it would concentrate too much power in the president's hands.
