Ukraine war: Soldier clutching watermelon greeted by Kherson crowds

The Ukrainian army has shared a video showing a solider celebrating with Kherson residents following Russia's withdrawal from the city - clutching a watermelon.

Most watermelons in Ukraine come from Kherson. A farming city on the Black Sea, its humid climate allows the fruit to flourish.

As the monuments dedicated to watermelon in the city show, its place as the unofficial symbol for the city predates Russia's invasion.
