Guernsey students dig their own World War One trench

Students in Guernsey have been taking part in commemorations marking a difficult period in the island's history.

Pupils from a number of schools have dug a replica World War One trench, as the island marks the Battle of Cambrai, where many Guernsey men died a century ago.

Forty per cent of the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry were killed, captured or wounded during the battle.

Cambrai was heralded as the longed-for victory on the Western Front.
