Jersey chocolatier Darren Stower coats the giant mould three times before joining the two halves together to make a 12kg (26lb) egg.

Sara Jayne Stanes, chairman of the Academy of Chocolate which represents artisan chocolatiers, said demand has shot up for expensive chocolate in the last five years.

The average person in the UK eats 8.6kg (19lb) of chocolate every year according to the latest research from consumer analysts Mintel.
