'Concern is for Chilean miners' psychological welfare'

After nearly three weeks trapped underground, 33 miners in Chile have had their first direct contact with the outside world.

Rescuers spoke to them through a tiny bore hole drilled into the chamber where they took refuge after a tunnel collapsed.

The miners described digging for water and sharing tiny portions of food. The bore-hole is now being used to send more food and oxygen. But this ordeal is far from over. It may take months to dig a tunnel large enough to get the men out.

Our correspondent Gideon Long reports from the mine.
