Thousands shelter from string of volcanic eruptions in Chile

Thousands of people have spent the night in temporary shelters after a series of volcanic eruptions in southern Chile.

Flashes of lightning could be seen through the billowing smoke and ash.

It is the first major eruption in Chile for nearly half a century.
