Cuban TV shows Hugo Chavez 'looking well'

Cuban and Venezuelan state TV have released images of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez with former Cuban President Fidel Castro, in an effort to end speculation over Chavez's health.

The footage, which claims to be from 28 June, shows the two laughing and looking at the Cuban state newspaper.

Officials said that the 56-year-old Chavez was recovering well from surgery to remove an abscess in his pelvis.

Opponents at home have been quick to seize on his absence as a violation of the constitution, saying governing from abroad is not allowed.
