Senators pass bill allowing gender change in Argentina
After years in the Congress, a bill allowing adults in Argentina to officially change their gender, image and birth name without having to get court approval has been passed by the Senate.
The so-called identity bill now only needs to be signed by president Cristina Fernandez, who has already expressed her support for it.
Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual activists have applauded the senators' vote.
