Crackdown on Mexico drug cartels key election issue

In a few weeks Mexicans will go to the polls to choose a new president, and the government's crackdown on drug gangs is a likely to be a key issue.

In 2006, President Felipe Calderon sent 6,500 troops into Michoacan to restore order after a surge in drug-related killings, but after six years the drug cartels are more powerful than ever.

The discovery of 49 beheaded and mutilated bodies in northern Mexico this May was just the latest episode in the country's long drug war.
