Pope Francis in Brazil: Pontiff celebrates Mass on beach
Pope Francis has come to the end of his historic first foreign visit in the role of Pontiff, concluding the trip to Brazil with a Mass on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.
Some three million people were reported to be in attendance at the event, with many of the young people staying on the beach overnight.
Pope Francis used the Mass to encourage young Catholics to go beyond their parochial boundaries and help others, and to announce Krakow as the location for the next Catholic youth festival in 2016.
