Life in a Brazilian quilombo

A community in Brazil is locked in a tense dispute over land with the country's navy.

Rio dos Macacos, home to 67 families, is one of more than 2,000 quilombos in Brazil - communities started by former slaves before forced labour was prohibited in 1888.

Brazil's constitution ruled that quilombolas were entitled to the land they had historically occupied.

But the country's navy built a base on the land in the 1950s and also claims ownership to Rio dos Macacos.

Julia Carneiro visited the impoverished community to see what life is like there.
