Environmental emergency in Galapagos as ship rounds aground
The government of Ecuador has declared an emergency in the Galapagos archipelago, saying a cargo ship which was carrying 15,400 gallons of diesel fuel is now stranded off one of its main islands, posing an environmental threat.
The fuel has been removed, but motor oil and cleaning products remaining in the vessel's holds could leak out.
