Zika infections will rise in Colombia, says president

Fears about the spread of the Zika virus throughout the Americas are growing, and Colombia has had more than 20,000 cases of the disease.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos tells the BBC he was expecting this kind of rapid increase, but the rate of infection will plateau and then fall.

Very little is still known about the connection between Zika and a birth defect suspected to be linked to the disease, he said.
