Zika Brazil mothers' plight

The surge in cases of microcephaly in Brazil is a drama that has been hitting mothers the hardest, with added layers of difficulties.

In Brazil's poor northeast, where 80% of the cases are concentrated, several women have been abandoned by their partners and most of them are from low-income families and can no longer afford to go back to work in order to take care of their babies.

Julia Carneiro has been to the city of Campina Grande in the northeast state of Paraiba, where poverty and machismo has been increasing the burden on mothers.
