The moment Bahrain police moved into Pearl Square

Two people have reportedly died in clashes between security forces and protesters in the Gulf state of Bahrain while many others are said to be critically injured.

The police used tear gas and rubber bullets to break up groups in Manama's main square.

ABC News Correspondent Miguel Marquez was in Pearl Square and found himself caught up in the violence. He described the moment security forces moved in.

After the overnight violence, police took back control of Pearl Square and tanks and armoured patrols were seen around the city centre.
