Syria warned over troop movement near Turkish border

The US has condemned Syria for reportedly moving soldiers and tanks closer to the Turkish border, raising concerns about further conflict and the plight of refugees in the area.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that if true, the move could increase the risk of a border clash with Turkey, and repeated Washington's calls for President Assad to implement promised reforms or resign.

Witnesses on the Turkish side of the border say they have seen Syrian soldiers patrolling the village of Khirbet al Jouz and snipers positioned on rooftops.
