US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton: 'At least 2,000 killed' in Syria

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said the Syrian government has killed at least 2,000 people in its attempts to crush opposition protests.

International criticism of Syria has been mounting since the UN Security Council adopted a statement on Wednesday condemning the government of President Assad for "widespread violations of human rights and the use of force against civilians''.

Mrs Clinton was speaking during a news conference with visiting Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird.
