Syria's Assad warns of 'earthquake' if West intervenes

Army deserters in Syria are reported to have killed 30 soldiers in two separate attacks.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says a bus transporting members of the security forces was ambushed in the north-west of the country, killing ten.

Twenty soldiers also died in fighting in the central city of Homs.

Syria's president, Bashar al-Assad, has warned western powers not to intervene - saying that could cause what he called an "earthquake" that would burn the whole of the Middle East.
