New set of sanctions announced for Iran

The United States has announced a new set of sanctions against Iran, targeting its petrochemical industries and financial sector.

Meanwhile the UK and Canada are cutting financial ties with Tehran. The steps are aimed at stopping what the West suspects is an Iranian nuclear weapons programme.

Iran insists its nuclear work is for civilian energy purposes, not nuclear arms.
