Kofi Annan draws attention to 'urgent need' in Syria
UN mediator Kofi Annan has said that there is an "urgent need to stop the killing, the abuses, and bring humanitarian aid to a suffering population", in Syria.
His comments came as an envoy of Mr Annan arrived in Damascus to discuss implementing a ceasefire plan.
Activists says several towns, including Homs, Deraa and the Douma suburb of Damascus, have been shelled.
Mr Annan was speaking via video-link from Geneva to the UN General Assembly.
