Kofi Annan holds talks with Russian president on Syria

The UN-Arab League peace envoy Kofi Annan has been holding talks in Moscow about the crisis in Syria.

Russia's president, Vladimir Putin, told Mr Annan that he would "do everything" to support his plan to end the conflict.

But Russia gave no indication how it would resolve a disagreement over a resolution, backed by western powers, which would allow the use of force to end the conflict in Syria.

Kofi Annan said he hoped the UN Security Council would be able to move forward on what he called a "critical issue".
